Habits Control Your Business Success


We all have them. You know, those things we do so CONSISTENTLY it becomes automatic!

Habits control almost everything, including your BUSINESS SUCCESS! About 90% of your current behavior is based on habits. Now don't get me wrong, certain habits are good and we need them. But everything is relative. Like brushing your teeth, for instance. Most everyone would say that's a good habit.

But if you only brushed the teeth you wanted to keep, you may not like the outcome later. Every habit has a consequence whether good or bad! There is a saying and I know you have heard it… "If you keep doing what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got".

So your choices of habits control your success. The good news is that habits can be CHANGED and new habits can be LEARNED. And I need to point out here that GOOD INTENTIONS don't count. Thinking good intentions can actually be a habit… But unless they are backed by effective action, they are USELESS! If your business is not going in the direction you want it to go… you can learn new habits to change your business results! So, what you need to know is… what's working and what's not working in your business.

So make a list of the habits you do daily that support your business and those that don't. For instance… Are you in the habit of having regular hours to work on your business? Are you in the habit of having a Daily Method of Operation (the list of things you need to do everyday) in place to go by? If you don't have a DMO, then you need to take that step. And I would be happy to help you with that if you need it. Are you in the habit of consistently using your Daily Method of Operation?

These are just a couple questions to help you get started. If you feel the habits you have are not serving you and producing results… decide what NEW habits you need to activate. The first month or so your new BEHAVIOR will be tough, and you may resort to backsliding. But that's ok. Just pick yourself up and recommit to the new habit. The more you do that, the easier it will become. And you will be on your way to habits that control your business successfully!

    This is such Great advice….Yes be Honest with yourself! As Joe said once take a week & record on a sheet all that you do each hour of the day to find out what you are doing vs Not doing in order to truly move your life & business forward

    Speaking of Habits I love this saying from Joe…

    Good post.

    The yellow BOOK is a good place to start when developing good habits that can fuel your business. Just like a 90 day action plan, if you commit to what you tell yourself to do, you will get the results that you deserve.

    Great post and much needed. So many people want the magic habit changing pill instead of being aware and taking action everyday to change the things they want (need) to change.

    You would think 30 days is a life time for some people but with the right associations, good books and constant implementation, habits can be broken or formed with ease.

    Hey Carol,

    It is always good to understand what a habit really is. I think of it as a discipline. Agreed, there are good and not so good ones. Those that serve us and those that do not. Being aware of how the things we do in our lives are affecting us is very important.

    Habits are so important. I mean the good ones of coarse. Don’t let those bad habits hold you back or ruin you. Change your habits before that happens.

    You can change almost anything if you choose to teach yourself how to.

    “If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got” is a great quote to really make you stop and evaluate what you’ve been doing. Another great post Carol!
